About Us

A little about your Hosts..

Jennie and Ged moved to Queensberry from Queenstown in 2011. We are one of many previous owners of the Inn since it was established in 1867.

We very much feel like custodians of the Inn doing everything we can to preserve and retain its History and Charm.

Our background in the Film Industry took us far and wide overseas, we enjoy welcoming Guests from many Countries and hope they can enjoy and indulge in the surrounding area just as much as we love to.

History

'The Queensberry Inn' located in Central Otago New Zealand has a rich History that reflects the regions development.

Known for it's rugged landscapes and Gold mining the area saw significant growth in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

The Inn was built by Thomas Anderson who came over from Dumfries in Scotland with his Uncle and Cousins who were Shepherds.

Close by areas like Criffle, Tinwald Burn, Lochar Burn and Queensberry Hills got their names from this Scottish area.

The Inn's doors opened in 1867 and was a Midway Coach and Wagon stop for people traveling between Cromwell and Wanaka.

Supply Wagons and Coaches with Cobb & Co used the Inn and it's services, at times up to eight Wagons and One Hundred horses would overnight here.

Passengers also arrived on the twice weekly coach from Dunedin to Wanaka.

A Post Office was also here, this became incorporated into what is now the owner's residence.

The Grooms Quarters and Tack Room were renovated into what we now call 'The Cottage' and 'The Stables Rooms', in 1994 these were thoughtfully designed for Guests to relax and soak up the surrounding Rural area and intriguing History.
